Accessibility
The Young Academy is committed to enhancing web technology to cater for the widest possible audience. We have developed this website using web standards and accessibility guidelines.
Web Accessibility Standards
We strive to maintain our website to level A of the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0. This publication explains how to make web content more useable for clients with disabilities.
In doing so, we have incorporated the following elements to our site:
- Non-text content such as images, forms and tables have been presented to the user with a text-alternative that serves the equvilant purpose, so that they can be transformed into other media forms using assistive technologies.
- This site has been developed using HTML and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). Pages have been organised logically using headings. The text content (HTML) has been kept separate from the presentation content (CSS), making it easier to read for users with screenreaders and text-only browsers.
- A mechanism is available to pause or stop the audio that plays during the viewing of the home page of this site. This conforms with requirement 5 of the W3C conformance requirements on non-interference.
- Functionality of content is able to be used through a keyboard interface by use of access keys. The following access keys control the following elements of the web page:
- Home (Alt + 1)
- About us (Alt + 2)
- What we do (Alt + 3)

Exceptions
Whilst the Young Academy strives to adhere to the accessibility guidelines, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the website. We are continuing to research ways to meet as many of the guidelines as possible. If you experience any problems in the meantime, please do not hestitate to get in touch.
